For certain applications, a vision
system is required to determine the location and orientation of a part
so that a robot can pick it up for assembly. This technique can be required when multiple
parts are presented on the same conveyance system or when accurate part fixturing is not possible or economical. The
vision system allows the robot to distinguish
part style, part location and part orientation for subsequent piece
assembly and packaging. Vision can also be used to perform measurement or
quality checks during the assembly process.
